Designed for someone who has never backpacked overnight. 3 nights at basecamp and 1 night backpacking. Skills introduced include orienteering with compass and GPS, shelter building, cooking on a camp stove/campfire, fire building, and Leave No Trace training. Activites are chosen based on weather conditions and the students on the trip. Typical activites guides choose from include team building games and adventures, hiking and climbing, archery/rifle range, rafting, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding, zipline, and other outdoor activities. Each trip is designed to accommodate 10 participants and 2 guides.
101-G is an all girls trip uniquelly designed to be special and meaningful for girls. This trip is great for returning girls and someone who has never backpacked overnight. This trip will model the other five day teen trips, however will be designed to focus on the social, self-esteem, and healthy development that is unique to girls. 3 nights at basecamp and 1 night backpacking. Activites are chosen based on weather conditions and the girls on the trip. Typical activites guides choose from include team building games and adventures, hiking and climbing, archery/rifle range, rafting, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding, zipline, and other outdoor activities. Each trip is designed to accommodate 10 girls and 2 female guides.
Designed for returning WSW campers or students who are otherwise comfortable backpacking. 1-2 nights at basecamp and 2-3 nights backpacking. Empahsis is on team building, outdoor leadership, and backcountry competency. Group works together mapping routes, creating time-control plan, meal-planning and food rationing. WSW guides allow participants to assume leadership roles on the trail and in camp. “Leave no trace” ethics are refined. Advanced wilderness risk assessment – river crossings, outdoor lightening risk reduction, and camp safeguards against wildlife. Each trip is designed to accommodate 10 participants and 2 guides.
Designed for returning WSW participants or individuals who have completed WSW 201 this summer. Refine outdoor skills, enhance leadership and learn to teach these skills to others. Successful completion of WSW 301 qualifies participants to become Junior Guide. This expedition is for those who desire a physical and mental challenge. Trails reach elevations above the timberline. Advanced training in risk-assessment, orienteering, food and water resources, and survival techniques.
